Tata Elxsi Unveils Blockchain-Powered Battery Tracking at 2025 Summit

At the recent Battery Summit held in Bangalore on May 28, Tata Elxsi showcased an innovative digital solution named Battery Aadhaar—a blockchain-based platform designed to track the entire lifecycle of batteries, from raw material extraction to recycling. This pioneering demonstration was part of a collaborative effort under the UNEP-led ‘Electrifying Mobility in Cities’ initiative, coordinated by NITI Aayog and the Department of Science & Technology.

Battery Aadhaar assigns a unique digital identity to each battery, allowing seamless monitoring of critical data such as manufacturer information, usage history, and material composition. This system aims to ensure regulatory compliance, prevent unsafe reuse, and promote responsible disposal practices within India’s rapidly growing electric mobility sector.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, alongside key government officials and representatives from consortium partners including Tata Motors, Tata AutoComp Systems, IIT Kharagpur, World Resources Institute, LOHUM Cleantech, NUNAM Technologies, and Oorja Energy.

Built upon Tata Elxsi’s proprietary MOBIUS+ platform, the solution leverages blockchain to create secure, tamper-resistant records. It offers tailored dashboards for stakeholders such as manufacturers, recyclers, and regulators. Real-time analytics further empower users with battery health forecasts and estimates of remaining useful life.

India’s transition to electric vehicles calls for robust battery management solutions to support a circular economy, and this technology aligns perfectly with evolving national policies. Tata Elxsi’s proprietary MOBIUS+ platform is designed to comply with Indian regulations while staying compatible with international standards like the EU Battery Regulation and emerging norms in Japan and North America. An integrated AI module enhances the system by interpreting regulatory changes and automating compliance reports.

During the summit, attendees experienced live demonstrations using QR codes to access battery data, illustrating the practical application of the tracking system. The platform’s modular architecture allows diverse participants within the ecosystem to customize integration as per their needs.

Anil Radhakrishnan, Chief Product Officer at Tata Elxsi, emphasized that MOBIUS+ is a vital step toward fostering transparency and regulatory adherence in the mobility space, reinforcing India’s journey toward sustainable transportation.

The Battery Summit 2025, hosted by the World Resources Institute India, gathered key players from across the battery and EV landscape to explore advancements in technology, policy, and market trends.
