Tata Altroz Racer Launched: Performance Hatchback Debuts with Premium Features

Tata Motors continues to strengthen its presence in India’s hatchback market with the launch of the Altroz Racer, a sportier version of its premium hatchback. Contrary to recent rumours, the car is not priced at ₹4.26 lakh, nor does it deliver 35 km per litre mileage.

The Tata Altroz Racer was officially launched in June 2024 as a performance-focused upgrade to the standard Altroz. It is positioned to compete with models like the Hyundai i20 N Line and the now-discontinued Maruti Baleno RS.

Pricing Details

The rumoured starting price of ₹4.26 lakh is incorrect. The Tata Altroz Racer is priced at:

– ₹9.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant

– ₹10.99 lakh for the top variant

These prices reflect the car’s upgraded features and performance-driven engineering

Mileage Clarification

The widely circulated claim of 35 km per litre mileage is also inaccurate. The actual mileage figures are:

– Altroz Racer Turbo Petrol: Around 18 to 20 km per litre (ARAI certified)

– Standard Altroz CNG: Approximately 26.9 km per kg

– Diesel Altroz (in limited availability): Up to 23.6 km per litre

– No current Altroz variant offers a mileage of 35 km per litre as of August 2025.

Performance and Engine

Tata Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol engine, which delivers:

– 120 PS of power

– 170 Nm of torque

– 6-speed manual transmission

This setup is designed for a more spirited and responsive driving experience, catering to driving enthusiasts.

Features and Styling

Tata has equipped the Altroz Racer with several premium and segment-first features, including:

– Dual-tone exterior with a black roof

– Twin racing stripes on the bonnet

– 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

– Voice-enabled sunroof

– 7-inch digital instrument cluster

– Wireless phone charger

– Ventilated front seats

– Air purifier

– 6 airbags as standard

Exterior Design

The Racer variant stands out visually with:

– Sportier front and rear bumpers

– 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels

– Cosmetic dual exhaust tips

– “Racer” branding

The overall design adds a youthful and dynamic appeal compared to the regular Altroz.

Safety and Build

Tata Altroz continues to maintain its reputation as one of the safest hatchbacks in India, with the standard model having received a 5-star Global NCAP rating. The Racer variant includes:

– Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

– Hill Hold Assist

– 6 airbags

– ISOFIX child seat mounts

– Cornering Stability Control

Is It India’s Most Affordable Car?

No, the Tata Altroz Racer is not the most affordable car in the country. That position still belongs to entry-level models like the Maruti Alto K10 and Renault Kwid, both priced under ₹6 lakh.

However, the Altroz Racer offers strong value in the premium hatchback segment, with a compelling combination of performance, safety, and features for buyers looking below the ₹11 lakh mark.
