Tamil Nadu launches WhatsApp chatbot Namma Arasu to offer 51 citizen services

The Government of Tamil Nadu has launched a new WhatsApp based chatbot called Namma Arasu to provide access to 51 essential citizen services. The chatbot was developed in partnership with Meta and is available in both Tamil and English. Residents can use the service by messaging +91 7845252525 on WhatsApp.

Namma Arasu brings multiple government services together on a single platform, making it easier for people to access public services without switching between different applications or visiting offices. With its built in search feature, users can download certificates, pay taxes and utility bills, access ration card services, make temple donations, file and track grievances, check property registration details, book tourism services, explore welfare schemes, and use transport related services.

The Tamil Nadu government said the chatbot is part of a growing network of state led digital initiatives aimed at simplifying access to public services. More services from different departments are expected to be added in the coming days. The WhatsApp based system is designed to save time and reduce the need for physical visits to government offices.

“We’re proud to partner with the Government of Tamil Nadu on Namma Arasu, transforming WhatsApp into a unified gateway for essential public services. By connecting citizens to government services in real time, this initiative delivers real time access to high demand services like tax and bill payments, certificate downloads, eliminating complexity and bringing government support directly into citizens’ daily lives. Namma Arasu sets a new benchmark for scalable, inclusive digital governance, empowering citizens across Tamil Nadu,” said Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head at Meta India.

Tamil Nadu has now become the third Indian state to use WhatsApp chatbots for citizen services. Similar platforms are already in use in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
