The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has appointed Tabitha Craig as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), marking a significant milestone in her career. Craig, in a recent LinkedIn post, shared the news of becoming the first African-American to hold this role at the CBO, an achievement she expressed pride in.

Together, we can make an impact not just within our organization but across the industry!” Craig commented, emphasizing her dedication to driving positive change in the field of cybersecurity.
Craig’s Remarkable Career Journey
Before stepping into this prestigious role, Craig accumulated extensive experience in cybersecurity across various government agencies. She spent over four years at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where she began as the team leader for the operational security division before rising to the position of OCISO division director.
Craig also has a long tenure with the Department of Defense, where she served as the lead cybersecurity watch officer for three years. In this role, she supervised security and compliance services at the Department’s IT Operation Center. Additionally, she held the role of JFHQ operations and training manager at the DOD for nearly 11 years.
Her experience extends beyond the Department of Defense. Craig also held notable positions with the World Bank, Commerce Department, and the State Department. She served in various cybersecurity roles, including as an information assistant, a cybersecurity information assurance specialist, and a lead instructor for cybersecurity information assurance and information system security officers.
With a wealth of experience in security leadership across multiple high-profile government organizations, Craig is set to bring invaluable expertise to the CBO as she leads efforts to fortify its cybersecurity infrastructure.
Her appointment is expected to have a far-reaching impact not just within the organization but across the broader cybersecurity industry as well.
