Synopsys Marks 30 Years in India with New R&D Centre in Bengaluru

Synopsys Inc., a global leader in engineering solutions, has celebrated its 30th anniversary in India by opening a new research and development centre in Bengaluru. The office, located at Bagmane Capital, spans over 455,000 square feet and will focus on electronic design automation, semiconductor IP, verification, and system design solutions.

The inauguration was attended by Sassine Ghazi, President and Chief Executive Officer of Synopsys, and Dr. Aart de Geus, Executive Chair and Founder. Ghazi highlighted India’s importance in the company’s journey, saying, “From our very first R&D center in Bengaluru to the network of engineers and partners that we have here now, India is an important center of innovation and talent.” He added that as India develops its semiconductor future, Synopsys is ready to deliver the comprehensive design solutions required to make these innovations possible.

Synopsys first established operations in India in 1995 with a research and development centre in Bengaluru, followed by a field organisation in 1997. Today, about one-third of the company’s global workforce is based in India, with the majority employed in engineering roles. Synopsys also works with more than 100 organisations, including semiconductor design centres, AI startups, and regional firms, to accelerate innovation.

The milestone inauguration comes soon after Synopsys completed its $35 billion acquisition of Ansys in July 2025. This move combines leaders in silicon design, IP, simulation, and analysis, expanding Synopsys’ addressable market to $31 billion. The integration will bring Ansys’ multiphysics simulation into Synopsys’ design automation stack, with the first joint solutions expected in 2026. These advancements aim to speed up innovation across industries such as semiconductors, automotive, aerospace, and healthcare.

As India strengthens its ambitions in the semiconductor sector, Synopsys’ expansion demonstrates its commitment to supporting the country’s role as a global innovation hub while leveraging the Ansys integration to drive engineering progress from silicon to systems.
