Swiggy partners Sarvam to enable voice-based multilingual ordering across services

In a move to expand accessibility in digital commerce, Swiggy has partnered with AI startup Sarvam to introduce voice-led, multilingual ordering experiences for users across India.

Swiggy Ltd announced on March 25 that the collaboration will allow users to place orders using voice commands through Sarvam’s AI platform. This feature will not be directly built into the Swiggy app but will function via Sarvam’s system.

Through this integration, users can order food and groceries, and book restaurant tables by speaking in their preferred language. Sarvam’s AI assistant will manage the full process, including discovery, ordering, and checkout.

The service will extend across Swiggy’s key offerings, including food delivery, Instamart, and Dineout. The goal is to improve access for users across India’s diverse linguistic base.

The company has not shared details about the timeline or financial terms of the partnership.

Sarvam’s voice models currently support 11 Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi. These models are designed to provide natural and seamless voice-based interactions.

Swiggy’s Chief Technology Officer, Madhusudhan Rao, said, “By leveraging Sarvam’s sovereign models built for India’s diverse linguistic landscape, alongside secure payments infrastructure, we are creating a distinctly India-first experience. Soon, users will be able to simply ask their AI assistant in their preferred language to order food or groceries, and reserve tables.”

Payments for these transactions will be processed through Razorpay using UPI-based infrastructure built for AI-driven transactions.

Swiggy stated that this partnership builds on its earlier efforts to integrate AI into its services, including model context protocol-based systems and agent-led transactions.

The move comes as technology companies in India increasingly focus on non-English-speaking users, a segment that remains underserved and is seen as important for expanding and improving the AI ecosystem.
