Surat Police Bust International Cyber Slavery Racket, Three Arrested

The Surat City Cyber Crime Cell has uncovered an international racket that trafficked Indians and foreign nationals to Myanmar, forcing them into what officials described as “cyber slavery.” Victims were compelled to work in online fraud operations under threats, with no freedom of movement or chance to escape. Police confirmed on Monday that three accused have been arrested and a local court has granted four days of police remand.

The main accused has been identified as Neepesh alias Nirav Lavush Chaudhary, 24, from Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand. He had studied up to Class 12 and dropped out of a BCA course. Chaudhary worked as an HR manager with K.K. Pak, a Chinese-run cybercrime company in Myanmar. The second accused, Preet Rasikbhai Kamani, 21, originally from Rajkot and residing in Zirakpur, Punjab, worked as a recruitment agent. He too studied up to Class 12. The third accused, Ashish Ramanlal Rana, 37, from Tapi district, was employed as a visa agent in Dubai and studied up to Class 10.

Investigations revealed that Chaudhary first travelled to Myanmar in 2023, where he joined a Chinese company as a customer chat assistant and was trained to conduct online frauds targeting victims across several countries. He later became an HR manager at K.K. Pak, recruiting workers on a commission basis. Kamani travelled to Myanmar in 2024 through a travel agent, joined K.K. Pak, and assisted in recruiting Indians and other nationals. Rana sourced recruits from Gujarat, arranging three people on commission.

Police said jobseekers from Gujarat and other states were promised lucrative overseas employment, taken to Thailand, and then illegally transported across the Thai Myanmar border. Once in Myanmar, they were confined in compounds with restricted movement, forced to work long hours in call centre style setups, and trained to commit online fraud. This included creating fake social media profiles, posing as women, targeting wealthy individuals on Instagram, and luring them into fraudulent investment schemes.

Each recruit earned the racket a commission of about ₹2.5 to 3 lakh. According to a police official, Chaudhary trafficked 36 Indians, one Pakistani, two Sri Lankans, and one Ethiopian. Kamani arranged nine Indians.

An FIR has been filed at Surat Cyber Crime Police Station. The accused face charges under cheating, wrongful confinement, human trafficking of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Police further revealed that Chaudhary travelled abroad multiple times since February 2023, including to Myanmar, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Nepal. Kamani also travelled to Dubai, Thailand, and Myanmar between October 2024 and August 2025. Rana had visited 22 countries, including Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, before being arrested.

Police authorities said technical analysis and field investigations led them to Punjab, where the three accused were arrested. The investigation is now focused on identifying the Chinese handlers associated with K.K. Pak and tracking cryptocurrency transactions used to pay commissions.
