Suki Launches AI-Powered Prescription Order Feature to Ease Clinician Workload

Suki, a leader in healthcare artificial intelligence (AI) technology, has announced a groundbreaking feature that allows for the generation and staging of prescription orders during ambient visits.

This innovative capability will be integrated into Suki Assistant, the company’s primary product, and was developed in response to clinician feedback. Prescription orders are one of the most time-consuming administrative tasks for healthcare providers, often taking up to 1.4 hours during an 8-hour shift. Addressing this issue is a top priority for Suki, as it significantly contributes to the administrative workload faced by clinicians. The initial rollout of this feature will be available to users of athenahealth’s electronic health record (EHR) through the athenahealth Marketplace, with plans to expand to other EHR partners in the near future.

Clinicians often struggle with manually entering and searching for orders across various tabs in their EHR systems. The need for individual acceptances for verification further complicates the process, making it inefficient and time-consuming, which can hinder patient care and lead to clinician burnout.

With the new feature, clinicians can verbally communicate their prescription orders to Suki during an ambient encounter. Suki will then organize, code, and stage the order automatically. This streamlines the submission process, reducing the need for numerous clicks and excessive scrolling. Clinicians can easily review and approve the orders, ultimately saving time and alleviating administrative pressures.

“Working with Suki’s AI technology for order entry has been a breath of fresh air,” says Dr. Kristi Trimm, Family Medicine, TrustCare. “Suki helps me close encounters faster by ensuring my orders are ready as soon as the patient walks out of the room. Less typing, more patient care—this is exactly what modern medicine needs, and I’m so happy to be part of the change.”

Suki is making significant progress in addressing the widespread problem of clinician burnout by cutting documentation time by an average of 72 percent and reducing after-hours work by nearly 6 hours. Clinicians often dedicate around 20 hours each week to administrative tasks, which impacts not only themselves but also patients, clinics, hospitals, and health systems. By alleviating this burden, Suki enables clinicians to devote more time to patient care and enhance the quality of their interactions, resulting in better patient outcomes and increased revenue for healthcare organizations.

“At Suki, clinicians are at the heart of everything we build, ensuring our solutions directly address their needs and enhance their workflows,” said Punit Soni, CEO and Founder of Suki. “Clinicians nationwide have voiced the burden of manual order entry, and we’re proud to introduce the industry’s first AI-powered orders capability. By streamlining order placement, minimizing delays, and reducing errors, we’re setting a new standard for healthcare innovation—empowering clinicians to focus on delivering high-quality, personalized care.”
