Cyient has announced the appointment of Sukamal Banerjee as its new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Sukamal will lead the company’s Digital, Engineering, and Technology (DET) business and will also join Cyient’s Board of Directors. He transitions from his previous role as CEO at Xoriant, where he served since March 2023.
Sukamal brings over 30 years of experience in the industry, beginning his career at GeometricPLM as an R&D engineer in 1992. Armed with an MBA in finance from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), he began his career at HCL Technologies as a senior management trainee in 1996. In a short span, he was promoted to business development manager, working out of Sunnyvale, California.
His leadership journey at HCL Technologies continued with several notable promotions. In 2006, he became Senior Director of Business Development based in Redmond, Washington, with responsibility for driving HCL’s business in the Northwestern USA and Western Canada. By 2008, Sukamal was promoted to Associate Vice President, and by 2012, he became Senior Vice President. In 2015, he was elevated to Executive Vice President.
From 2016 to 2019, Sukamal served as Corporate Vice President, heading the IoT BU at HCL. He continued to rise through the ranks, becoming Corporate Vice President, overseeing business units, and eventually in 2022, he was promoted to Corporate Vice President. After nearly 27 years at HCL, Sukamal moved to Xoriant in March 2023, where he served as CEO.
Now, at Cyient, Sukamal will leverage his deep expertise in establishing and scaling business units, driving global partnerships, and managing strategic accounts. MM Murugappan, Chairman of Cyient, believes that Sukamal’s “experience and leadership in the ER&D and technology sector will help Cyient tremendously as we strengthen the organisation to deliver the next phase of accelerated growth.” Murugappan is confident that under Sukamal’s leadership, “Cyient DET will be poised to be a leading technology-led intelligent engineering solutions organisation delivering to the expectations of our clients, associates, and shareholders.”
