State and Central Agencies Strengthen Joint Efforts Against Cybercrime

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the state police convened a meeting on Monday to emphasise the importance of collaboration between various agencies in tackling economic and cybercrimes. Additional Director General (ADG) of the EOU, Nayyar Hasnain Khan, underlined that effective coordination is essential to address the rising challenges in this area.

Held at the EOU headquarters, the meeting brought together senior officials from multiple central agencies, including the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The discussions focused on strategies to curb international fraud, combat drug trafficking, run awareness campaigns and facilitate intelligence sharing between state and central bodies.

Khan urged all participating agencies to share critical intelligence that could aid in preventing and investigating economic and cyber offences. The agenda also included measures for confiscating property linked to criminal activities and recovering narcotics and psychotropic substances.

Officials from other departments, such as the Armed Border Force and the Income Tax Department, also attended the meeting. They presented their plans to prevent economic crimes and illegal activities, particularly in the lead-up to the 2025 elections.

“The EOU has been designated as the state-level nodal agency for spreading awareness and coordinating efforts against economic and cyber-crimes, as well as drug-related offences,” Khan stated. “The probe agencies reached a consensus on the need for enhanced coordination and effective action plans to ensure the successful execution of responsibilities,” he added.
