A carefully planned investment scam has led to a ₹1.40 crore loss for a Bengaluru based e-commerce company after fraudsters gained access to its managing director’s mobile phones during a fake funding meeting. The scam unfolded in the Kaushambi area of Ghaziabad and highlights how startups searching for investors are increasingly being targeted through sophisticated financial scams.
The victim company is NEX Global India Private Limited. Following court directions, police registered a first information report against two accused, Aman and Abhay, based on a complaint by managing director Suman Kumar. The scam took place in April 2025, but the case progressed only after judicial intervention. Suman Kumar had enrolled his company on the MSME portal while seeking investment to expand the business, which is when the alleged scam began.
According to the complaint, the accused contacted him on March 30, 2025, claiming they could arrange startup funding. They proposed a meeting on April 4, 2025, at a hotel near the Kaushambi Metro station and promised that ₹3 lakh would be transferred as an initial amount to build confidence. During the meeting, one accused took both of Suman Kumar’s phones, saying they were needed to verify banking details and investor databases. He later cited a “technical issue” and walked out with the phones. Soon after, the second accused also left and did not return, completing the core step of the scam.
Suman Kumar tried to block his SIM cards and banking access as soon as he sensed the scam, but the fraudsters had already acted. By the time he checked the company account, ₹1.40 crore had been transferred to multiple bank accounts through rapid transactions. He alleged that despite approaching the local police station and senior officers, no immediate action was taken, forcing him to move the court. Police are now examining hotel CCTV footage and bank transaction details to trace the scam trail, identify beneficiaries, and arrest the accused. Officials said the investigation into the scam is ongoing and recovery efforts are underway.
