Starlink, led by Elon Musk, has joined hands with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to transform how Indian users access satellite internet. The partnership introduces Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification, offering a faster, paperless, and secure onboarding process. This step is expected to make satellite internet more accessible to households, businesses, and institutions across the country.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT noted that the initiative highlights the scalability and reliability of India’s digital infrastructure. By integrating Aadhaar’s trusted ecosystem, a global satellite communications provider like Starlink can now ensure instant verification, full regulatory compliance, and a smooth user experience without the burden of extensive paperwork.
The move also reinforces the global significance of India’s digital identity system. With Starlink officially recognised as a Sub-Authentication User Agency and Sub-eKYC User Agency, UIDAI’s presence during the announcement emphasised the credibility of the initiative. It also reflected a commitment to transparency, accountability, and driving innovation at scale.
By adopting Aadhaar authentication, Starlink is not only streamlining the process of connecting users to high-speed satellite internet but also showcasing how India’s digital public infrastructure can power large-scale adoption of advanced technologies.
