Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, officially commenced its operations in Sri Lanka today, Wednesday, July 2, 2025. This launch marks a significant milestone, making Sri Lanka the third country in South Asia to gain access to Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet services, following its availability in Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Starlink’s footprint in Asia continues to expand, with services already accessible in nations such as Mongolia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Jordan, Yemen, and Azerbaijan. The company boasts the world’s largest constellation of satellites, with over 6,750 currently orbiting Earth, dedicated to providing reliable internet connectivity globally.
Looking ahead, Starlink is also actively preparing for its highly anticipated launch in India. The company is expected to roll out its services in India within the next two months, having recently secured a crucial license from the Department of Telecommunications, paving the way for its entry into another vast South Asian market.
