In a significant leadership change, Standard Chartered has announced the appointment of P.D. Singh as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for India, effective April 1. He steps into the role following the retirement of Zarin Daruwala on March 31.

Before joining Standard Chartered, Singh served as the CEO of JP Morgan Chase Bank in India, where he played an instrumental role in establishing the bank’s corporate banking arm. Under his visionary leadership, JP Morgan won several industry accolades for its remarkable performance. Prior to his time at JP Morgan, he spent a decade with HSBC, where he held pivotal leadership roles in corporate and commercial banking.
With a double MBA and an engineering background, Singh has been a driving force in transforming the financial sector, making valuable contributions that have left a lasting impact.
Sunil Kaushal, Co-Head of Corporate & Investment Banking and CEO of ASEAN and South Asia at Standard Chartered, expressed his enthusiasm about Singh’s appointment, saying, “A very warm welcome to P.D. Singh. India is a key market within Standard Chartered, and we have ambitious plans as the country’s growth story continues to unfold. His in-depth experience and understanding of the markets, coupled with strong client and stakeholder relationships, will be a valuable addition to the Bank’s leadership team as we accelerate our cross-border and wealth strategy.”
Kaushal also extended his gratitude to Zarin Daruwala, who served as CEO of India & South Asia for nearly a decade, adding, “I would like to thank Zarin Daruwala for her contribution over the last nine years as CEO of India & South Asia. I wish her the very best for her future endeavors.”
P.D. Singh shared his excitement about his new role at Standard Chartered, stating, “I have been a keen observer of the Bank’s ambitions and growth trajectory in India and am looking forward to playing a role in reaffirming our commitment by further driving sustained growth and delivering value to our stakeholders.”
The appointment of P.D. Singh underscores Standard Chartered’s ongoing commitment to India as a key market in its global strategy.
