Srinivas Injeti Appointed as Chairperson at NSE

The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) has announced the appointment of Srinivas Injeti, Public Interest Director, as the new Chairperson of its Governing Board. His appointment has been approved by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and is effective immediately. The Board and the Management of NSE have welcomed him to this role.

Injeti, a retired IAS officer from the 1983 batch, brings with him more than four decades of experience in corporate regulation, financial services, governance, and public policy. He has held several key leadership roles during his career. From 2017 to 2020, he served as Union Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, where he played a crucial role in reforms related to insolvency law, competition law, and company law. His contributions also included the establishment of the NFRA, the Independent Directors’ databank, improvements in corporate governance, and the strengthening of the CSR regulatory framework.

As the founding Chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) between 2020 and 2023, Injeti was instrumental in setting up India’s first international financial regulator. Under his leadership, significant initiatives were introduced in global banking, FinTech, sustainable finance, the funds ecosystem, bullion exchange, aircraft leasing, GCCs, and related services. He also advanced the SGX-NSE IFSC Connect.

Previously, Injeti served as Union Sports Secretary and Director General of the Sports Authority of India, where he conceptualised the Khelo India programme and reformed the country’s sports governance system. He has also led the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority and undertaken international assignments with the United Nations in Kosovo and Afghanistan. In addition, he has served on the Boards of SEBI, LIC, and various state public sector undertakings.

From 2017 to 2023, Injeti was a member of the Financial Stability and Development Council of India. Academically, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (Hons.) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, and an MBA from Strathclyde Graduate Business School in the UK.

Injeti’s appointment marks a significant moment for the NSE, bringing in a leader with a proven record of policy innovation, regulatory expertise, and global experience.
