Spotify has launched a new Automix feature that acts like your own personal DJ, creating smooth transitions between songs for a seamless listening experience. Whether it is a gym session, a party playlist, or a chill evening mix, Automix helps users blend tracks effortlessly. The feature is currently available only to Spotify Premium subscribers.
To start using Automix, open an existing playlist or create a new one. Inside the playlist, tap on Mix from the toolbar. Spotify will automatically analyse each track’s tempo, key, and beat grid to prepare transitions. You can begin with the Auto option for an instant, algorithm-driven mix or select Customise to take full creative control.
In custom mode, users can choose from presets like Fade for soft transitions or Rise for more dramatic ones. They can also adjust details such as volume curves, EQ balance, and effects, or use the visual waveform and beat markers to align transitions with precision. Once satisfied, tap Save to lock in the mix. Playlists can also be shared or co-created with Premium friends in a shared Mixed Playlist. At any point, users can toggle the Mix button to revert the playlist to its original form.
To make the most of Automix, there are a few useful techniques. Matching tempos and keys helps ensure natural transitions, and Spotify displays BPM and key information when you tap Mix. Dance genres like house, trance, or disco tend to blend more smoothly than slower ballads or rock tracks. Arranging songs to gradually build or ease intensity helps shape a consistent energy throughout the playlist.
Automix can also be used for different moods and activities. You can create a running mix for steady pacing, a non-stop party playlist, or a continuous road trip soundtrack without pauses between songs.
With Automix, Spotify makes mixing music easy for everyone, turning ordinary playlists into DJ-style sets with just a few taps.
