Spinny partners Tesla to ease shift from petrol cars to electric vehicles in India

Quietly addressing one of the biggest barriers to electric vehicle adoption, an Indian used-car marketplace has joined hands with a global EV maker to simplify the move from petrol and diesel cars to electric mobility.

Indian used-car marketplace Spinny has announced a strategic partnership with Tesla Inc. to support Indian consumers looking to switch from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric cars. Under the collaboration, Spinny will act as a preferred exchange partner, integrating its car-selling platform with Tesla ownership.

The partnership is part of Tesla’s ‘Switch and Save’ programme, which focuses on reducing the complexity involved in exchanging an existing vehicle while purchasing an electric car. Through this integration, customers can experience a fully digital and streamlined upgrade process.

The collaboration also brings financial incentives for buyers. Customers can avail an exchange benefit of Rs 3 lakh under Tesla’s programme, along with a Spinny-exclusive bonus of up to Rs 25,000 on vehicle delivery.

Flexible financing options are being offered to further ease ownership. Monthly instalments start at Rs 49,000 with a down payment of Rs 6 lakh. Tesla has also estimated that owners could save up to Rs 20,000 per month in operating and maintenance costs compared to premium petrol or diesel vehicles.

Enhanced convenience for Model Y buyers

Customers opting for the Tesla Model Y will receive a complimentary wall connector for home charging. Tesla estimates charging costs to be as low as Rs 1 per km.

Vehicle owners can sell their existing cars through the Spinny app, at a Spinny Hub, or directly at a Tesla Centre, providing multiple touchpoints for convenience.

Niraj Singh, Founder and CEO, Spinny, said: “This partnership is about making the shift to electric simple and rewarding for Indian consumers. By enabling customers to sell their cars on Spinny and seamlessly transition to a Tesla, we are creating a true end-to-end upgrade journey. Tesla sets the benchmark for the electric driving experience, and Spinny’s trusted, technology-led platform removes friction from the transition. Together, we are reshaping how consumers move to electric mobility”.

By addressing challenges around vehicle valuation and documentation, the partnership aims to build consumer confidence and tap into the growing potential for EV adoption in India.
