SpaceX’s Starlink prepares for India debut with key hires in Bengaluru

Starlink, a wholly owned subsidiary of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has started hiring in India, signalling the company’s plans to begin satellite communications (SatCom) operations soon. The firm recently listed several job openings on LinkedIn for its Bengaluru office, following regulatory approval to operate in the country.

The move comes after Starlink received clearance from Indian authorities in July, allowing it to start preparations for providing high-speed satellite internet across remote and underserved areas of India. Reports also suggest that the company is planning to set up multiple gateway earth stations across the country.

The company has posted four positions in India, including Payments Manager, Accounting Manager, Senior Treasury Analyst, and Tax Manager. According to the listings, these roles are part of Starlink’s efforts to expand its “international footprint” and establish global service operations. The positions were posted about a week ago on the professional networking platform.

The Payments Manager will oversee payment success rates, fraud monitoring, settlements, and reconciliation processes on a daily and weekly basis. The Tax Manager will handle tax preparation, data coordination, and payments, while the Senior Treasury Analyst will support the development of Starlink’s global treasury infrastructure.

This hiring push follows reports that Starlink intends to bring in foreign technical experts to assist with setting up its gateway stations across India. However, only Indian citizens will be allowed to work at these facilities initially, until the Union Ministry of Home Affairs grants security clearance for foreign personnel.

The planned gateway earth stations will be built in several major cities, including Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Noida. These facilities will serve as relay hubs, enabling seamless communication between Starlink’s low-earth orbit satellites and ground-based receivers.

In July, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) granted Starlink a five-year licence to use its satellites for commercial operations in India. The approval, confirmed by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), made Starlink the third company to receive such a licence after Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio.

With its entry into India’s SatCom market, Starlink aims to bring fast, reliable internet connectivity to regions that remain beyond the reach of traditional networks.
