Southwest Airlines has announced plans to establish a Global Innovation Centre in Hyderabad, marking a major step in the city’s growth as a technology and innovation hub. The announcement came during a visit by a Southwest Airlines delegation led by Chief Information Officer Lauren Woods and Chief Technology Officer Tom Merritt, who met Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday.
Chief Minister Reddy welcomed the initiative and highlighted Hyderabad’s business-friendly ecosystem, skilled workforce, and strong infrastructure as key reasons the city is ideal for global corporate innovation.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister shared Telangana’s ambitious vision under the Telangana Rising 2047 roadmap, aiming to develop the state into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. He noted that the Southwest Airlines Innovation Centre would support the airline’s global business strategy while further positioning Hyderabad as a leading technology and innovation hub.
The Global Innovation Centre is expected to:
-
Drive research and development initiatives aligned with Southwest Airlines’ global operations
-
Support digital transformation and technology adoption in airline operations
-
Leverage Hyderabad’s technology ecosystem and skilled talent to develop innovative solutions for the global airline industry
This move reinforces Hyderabad’s status as a preferred destination for international companies looking to establish innovation, technology, and research centres in India.
