OpenAI has released its Sora video creation app on Android, giving more users the ability to make and share AI generated videos. The app is now listed on the Google Play Store in the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, as confirmed in an announcement on Tuesday.
Sora first launched on iOS in September and quickly gained attention, crossing one million downloads within its first five days. The app features a feed similar to popular short video platforms, showcasing AI generated clips from creators. It also allows users to create personalised videos using its cameo feature, which can place users or their friends inside AI generated scenes.
The app has recently faced criticism related to deepfake concerns and copyright protections. This led to a change in its approach, including reversing its opt out policy for rightsholders.
OpenAI has added support for character cameos that use reusable avatars. The company also plans to allow rightsholders to charge extra for cameos of well known characters and people in the future.
