Sony unveils WF-1000XM6 with improved noise cancellation and Gemini AI support

Taking its premium audio lineup forward, Sony has launched the WF-1000XM6 flagship wireless earphones, bringing stronger active noise cancellation, a more compact design, and new AI-driven features.

The WF-1000XM6 comes with enhanced ANC and a relatively smaller chassis compared to its predecessor. Sony has also added quality-of-life upgrades, including support for Google Gemini AI. In the US, the earbuds are priced at $329.99, which is approximately Rs 29,903. There is currently no confirmation on the India launch timeline.

Sony says the WF-1000XM6 is built to help users focus on their music in any environment. The earbuds run on a dual-processor system, featuring the QN3e processor for improved DAC amplifier performance and an Integrated Processor V2 that supports 32-bit processing, up from 24-bit in the earlier model.

Each earbud is equipped with 2 microphones and a bone conduction sensor to improve voice pickup during calls. These sensors detect vibrations from the skull and jawbone, allowing clearer voice capture even in noisy surroundings. Sony also redesigned the earbuds to match the natural shape of the inner ear, making them 11% slimmer than the previous generation.

Audio features include Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme, 360 Reality Audio, and a customisable 10-band EQ through the Sony Sound Connect app. Users also get head tracking and background music effects.

Sony claims the WF-1000XM6 delivers up to 25% better active noise cancellation than the WF-1000XM5, especially across mid-to-high frequency ranges.

Many familiar features return, such as Auto Play, Quick Access, and Adaptive Sound Control. The key new addition is Gemini integration, enabling hands-free voice commands and Gemini Live for more natural AI-based interactions.

Connectivity is improved with advanced algorithms and antennas that are 1.5 times larger than before. The earbuds also support Bluetooth LE Audio for low-latency use.

The WF-1000XM6 carries an IPX4 rating for splash and sweat resistance. The charging case measures 61.6 x 41.1 x 26.5 mm and weighs 47 g.

Battery performance remains unchanged, offering up to 12 hours of playback with ANC off and 8 hours with ANC on. Charging is supported via USB Type-C and wireless charging.
