Sony appears to be preparing a new addition to its wireless audio portfolio, with leaks pointing to a previously unannounced pair of true wireless earbuds called the LinkBuds Clip. While the company has only teased a vague “new way to listen” ahead of its January 21 announcement, leaked details suggest the product will feature an open-ear, clip-style design, setting it apart from Sony’s flagship noise-cancelling earbuds.
Sony has confirmed that a new audio product will be announced on January 21, 2026. A teaser video released on January 13 briefly highlighted “a new way to listen” before being made private. Beyond this, the company has not shared any official specifications.
According to a report, the upcoming device is expected to be called the Sony LinkBuds Clip, with the model number WF-LC900. The earbuds are said to be different from the widely discussed WF-1000XM6, which is expected to launch later, possibly on February 12, 2026.
The LinkBuds Clip are likely to be unveiled on January 21, with availability rolling out shortly after. Some regions may see the product by the end of January 2026. Pricing is expected to match the launch price of the LinkBuds Open, at EUR 199.99 in Europe and $229.99 in the US.
Leaks suggest the LinkBuds Clip will use an open-ear design that allows ambient sound to pass through, making them suitable for outdoor use, calls and long listening sessions. They are expected to be Sony’s first clip-style true wireless earbuds, possibly featuring an ear-hook mechanism that wraps behind the ear. The design is said to prioritise lightweight comfort and a secure fit.
Reported features include Bluetooth connectivity with multipoint support for 2 devices, along with listening modes such as standard playback, voice boost and sound leakage reduction. The earbuds are also expected to support 360 Reality Audio and spatial sound personalisation.
For calls, the LinkBuds Clip may include dual microphones, a voice vibration sensor and AI-based voice pickup. Touch controls for playback, volume and modes are also expected. Battery life is tipped at up to 37 hours with the charging case, including around 9 hours from the earbuds alone. Fast charging could deliver about 1 hour of playback from a 3-minute charge.
Additional leaked features include IPX4-rated water resistance, support for Sony’s Sound Connect app, adaptive volume control and optional fitting accessories. The earbuds are expected to launch in black, cream, green and purple, with dimensions of around 89×64×58 mm and a weight of about 154 g.
