Sonatype Expands Global Operations with New Innovation Center in Hyderabad, India

Sonatype, a global leader in end-to-end software supply chain security, has officially launched a new Innovation Center in Hyderabad, India. This strategic expansion marks a critical step in the company’s mission to advance AI-driven software development while ensuring secure and resilient open-source and AI-generated code.

Strengthening Global Innovation From India

The Hyderabad Innovation Center will serve as a strategic hub to scale Sonatype’s global operations, bolster AI capabilities, and support 24/7 worldwide customer needs. Housing over 200 engineers, product leaders, and AI and cybersecurity specialists, the center reinforces Sonatype’s long-standing reputation for innovation — from developing the Nexus Repository (used by 15M+ developers) to maintaining Maven Central, the world’s largest open-source Java repository.

“India is home to one of the largest open source and AI adoption communities in the world,” said Mitchell Johnson, Chief Product Development Officer at Sonatype. “By expanding to Hyderabad, we’re reaffirming our commitment to scaling responsibly and sustainably while strengthening our impact across global markets.”

A Platform Built for the Future of Secure Software

With over 80% of modern software comprising open-source and AI-generated components, Sonatype’s platform offers complete lifecycle protection against evolving cybersecurity threats. The Hyderabad center will accelerate:
  • AI-powered product development
  • Real-time threat detection and mitigation
  • Global security and compliance solutions

Leadership and Local Impact

Spearheading Sonatype’s expansion in India is Abhishek Chauhan, who joins as Head of India and Senior Director of Technology. With deep industry expertise from past roles at LendingTree and Wells Fargo, Chauhan will lead engineering growth and foster local tech leadership.
“With this new center, we’re investing not just in technology but in the next generation of engineering talent that will define the future of secure software,” said Chauhan.

Commitment to Open Source and Regulatory Readiness

Sonatype is a founding member of the Open-Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF) and a trusted partner for organizations navigating critical frameworks like:
  • CERT-IN guidelines
  • SBOM compliance
  • SEBI’s Cyber Resilience Framework

Sonatype’s platform and educational resources aim to support Indian enterprises in aligning with evolving software security standards
