Skillsoft Elevates John Frederick to Chief Financial Officer, Effective Immediately

Wishing Mr. John Frederick greater responsibilities and exciting challenges in this impressive new chapter!

Skillsoft, the dynamic platform dedicated to empowering learners and organizations alike, has announced the appointment of John Frederick as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. Frederick, who was already steering change as Chief Transformation Officer since August 2024, now steps fully into the CFO role, succeeding Rich Walker, who will remain in an advisory capacity until July 4, 2025, ensuring a seamless handover.

With over 30 years of expertise in finance and operations at growth-driven companies, Frederick brings a wealth of knowledge to Skillsoft. His recent tenure as Chief Transformation Officer saw him collaborate closely with leadership to refine and launch strategies aimed at boosting growth, efficiency, and competitive edge. Between 2018 and 2021, he led Skillsoft’s finance team as Chief Administrative Officer and also served as CEO of SumTotal Systems, a Skillsoft business acquired in 2022. His previous experience includes CFO roles at Indigo Ag, Avid Technology, and Open Solutions.

Ron Hovsepian, Executive Chair and CEO, expressed confidence in Frederick’s appointment, stating, “John’s deep familiarity with Skillsoft, our market and our team, as well as his experience leading finance organizations, make him a natural choice to serve as our next CFO. John is a skilled operator who has a proven track record of leading transformations, instilling financial discipline, and driving profitable growth. He has been an important partner to the management team as we worked through the design and initial implementation phases of our transformation, and I am confident he will be a key player in helping us successfully execute our strategic plan.”

Frederick shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I am excited to be named CFO at this important time in our strategic journey. We have made progress toward enhancing our operational execution to achieve improved profitability and positive free cash flow. I look forward to helping our team drive growth and enhance value while furthering our mission of unlocking human potential.”

The company also extended its gratitude to outgoing CFO Rich Walker for his dedicated service over the last four years, emphasizing that his departure is unrelated to financial or operational matters.
