SK Telecom announced on the 2nd that it has officially introduced the AI Governance Portal to manage the safety and reliability of its artificial intelligence services in a systematic manner.
The AI Governance Portal will play an important role in strengthening AI safety by analysing risks and opportunities of AI services. This process will be based on SK Telecom’s AI governance principle known as T.H.E. AI, which applies checklist requirements depending on risk levels.
T.H.E. AI stands for A by Telco, which reflects trust and consolidation in telecommunications technology, A for Humanity, which highlights diversity and inclusion for human welfare, and A with Ethics, which focuses on transparency in decision making and accountability.
The main role of the AI Governance Portal is to provide risk and opportunity analysis of AI services under the framework of T.H.E. AI and share the results. The analysis involves two stages, starting with a self assessment by the business team, followed by a review and consultation with the AI governance team and the Red Team.
The business team carries out risk and opportunity assessments by applying over 60 checklists across four areas: reliability, diversity and inclusion, decision transparency, and accountability. After this, a second assessment is conducted by the Red Team, which consists of experts in technology, services, and governance. This team, along with the AI governance group, provides detailed feedback on technical flaws, risk factors, copyrights, response biases, and governance areas. The Red Team also performs rigorous evaluations to identify vulnerabilities in AI services based on the findings of the self assessment.
These evaluations are not limited to a single occurrence but will continue throughout the lifecycle of AI services. Support is provided from planning and development to deployment and maintenance. Portal safety measures will also cover post launch operations, fault management, and service improvements. The AI Governance Portal will present all assessment results in a dashboard format to make lifecycle tracking easier.
