Singapore has officially inaugurated the National Semiconductor Translation and Innovation Centre for Gallium Nitride (NSTIC (GaN)), marking a significant milestone as the nation’s first dedicated national facility for Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductors. The center, which opened its doors on July 1, 2025, aims to propel innovation in GaN technology, known for enabling the development of smaller, faster, and more energy-efficient electronic devices.
NSTIC (GaN) brings advanced GaN manufacturing capabilities directly to Singapore, strategically positioning local innovators to compete in high-growth global markets. These include critical sectors such as advanced 5G and 6G communication systems, sophisticated radar technologies, and cutting-edge satellite communications.
Originally established in 2023 as the National Gallium Nitride Technology Centre (NGTC), NSTIC (GaN) is a collaborative endeavor involving key national research and academic institutions: the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), DSO National Laboratories (DSO), and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore).
The center is designed to address the challenges faced by companies and researchers by providing crucial access to advanced wafer fabrication and prototyping infrastructure. This initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Singapore’s standing within the global semiconductor ecosystem.
Beyond technological advancements, NSTIC (GaN) is also committed to developing a robust pipeline of local semiconductor talent. Through strategic partnerships with Institutes of Higher Learning, it offers students and researchers early exposure to industry-grade infrastructure and actively supports PhD training programs, fostering the next generation of semiconductor experts in Singapore.
