He brings over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas sector. His expertise spans project execution, global procurement, large-scale operations, and technology-led transformation. Before becoming CMD, he served as Director (Projects) at GAIL (India) Limited.
In this role, he led major infrastructure projects, including the expansion of natural gas and LPG pipelines, development of gas processing facilities, upgrades to SCADA systems, green energy initiatives, and operations and maintenance of GAIL’s 20,000+ km pipeline network. He also oversaw the successful completion of the Dabhol Breakwater Project.
Shri Gupta has also played a key leadership role across several joint ventures and associated entities. These include Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL), OPaL India, South East Asia Gas Pipeline (SEAGP), Green Gas Limited, and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited. He served in various board-level positions, guiding governance, project delivery, and long-term strategy.
Earlier in his career, he spent over 30 years at Engineers India Limited, rising to Executive Director (Projects). During this period, he led major global projects such as the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria and Mongolia’s first refinery. He also delivered several large-scale EPC, petrochemical, and refinery projects.
A respected thought leader and writer, Shri Gupta continues to promote innovation, digitisation, and faster project execution as best practices. His appointment as CMD reflects GAIL’s focus on infrastructure expansion, operational excellence, and sustainable growth in India’s evolving energy landscape.
