Sentient Labs unveils ROMA to advance open and transparent artificial intelligence reasoning

Sentient Labs has launched the Recursive Open Meta Agent, known as ROMA, an open source system that is being recognised as an important milestone for artificial intelligence innovation in India. ROMA is not designed as a traditional large language model. It functions as a new reasoning architecture that aims to change how artificial intelligence interprets, manages and completes complex tasks through dynamic recursive planning.

Himanshu Tyagi, co founder of Sentient Labs, told a common noun that ROMA represents a step forward from artificial intelligence systems that depend on opaque decision making. He said that “ROMA isn’t a model but a reasoning architecture, built to rethink how AI plans, coordinates and solves complex problems through its recursive task tree.” ROMA uses its Atomiser and Planner in repeated cycles to break down objectives into clear and traceable tasks. This approach aims to bring transparency to artificial intelligence actions and outcomes.

Tyagi also commented on global discussions around artificial intelligence safety. He said that major technology companies often use “semantic gymnastics” to maintain control while limiting visibility into their internal processes. He added that “true safety comes from openness and auditability.” ROMA is built so that developers and researchers can see every step of the reasoning process. This includes tool use, decision flow and error identification. It marks a shift from closed systems that limit public understanding and oversight.

ROMA is also designed around open collaboration. Its borderless artificial intelligence framework encourages global contributors to integrate their own models and agents without depending on central enterprise systems. Co founder Sandeep Nailwal, known for his work on Polygon, sees ROMA as a natural extension of decentralised innovation. He said, “Sentient is an attempt to decentralise intelligence itself. Intelligence should be a public good,” adding that “no single company can out innovate a global open community.”

Early performance indicators show strong results. “ROMA’s early results back this up, with ROMA Search hitting 45.6 percent accuracy on Seal 0, surpassing Kimi Researcher and even Gemini 2.5 Pro.” These findings suggest that open source reasoning engines may soon match or exceed the performance of traditional centralised systems.

As ROMA develops further, Sentient Labs aims to support a future where artificial intelligence is open, transparent and shaped by global collaboration rather than corporate control.
