Positioning itself at the centre of India’s expanding GCC landscape, the country’s largest public sector lender has taken a significant step in Bengaluru.
State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty on Wednesday inaugurated the bank’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. The initiative is being described as the first of its kind by an Indian bank and highlights SBI’s focus on supporting the fast-growing GCC ecosystem in the country.
As part of this move, SBI has also set up a dedicated relationship management team in Bengaluru. This team will exclusively cater to the banking and financial requirements of Global Capability Centres operating in the region, according to a statement.
During the event, Setty also handed over an e-ambulance to the MEG & Centre in Bengaluru. Bengaluru Circle Chief General Manager Joohi Smita Sinha was present on the occasion along with other senior officials.
In addition to the GCC launch, SBI inaugurated 11 new branches across the city. The bank also announced multiple social welfare initiatives under its corporate social responsibility programmes. These include the upgradation of 35 Government Primary Schools across Karnataka, the supply of ENT diagnostic and therapeutic equipment to the ENT Wing of Bagchi–Parthasarathy Hospital at IISc Medical School, a 50,000-tree plantation drive at the Tumkur University campus, and the donation of an e-ambulance to the Madras Engineer Group & Centre in Bengaluru.
The launch reflects SBI’s broader intent to align its services with emerging enterprise needs while continuing its focus on community development.
