Sandra Sneed Appointed CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull as Gregory Calliste Announces Retirement

NYC Health + Hospitals has named Sandra Sneed, MBA, FACHE, as the new Chief Executive Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, marking a return to the health system where she began her career. Sneed, who will begin her role on March 24, brings over 20 years of leadership experience in hospital operations, with a strong track record of improving patient care and reducing wait times.

Born at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens, Sneed’s healthcare journey began as an occupational therapist at both Bellevue and Kings County Hospitals. Her appointment signals a return to her roots, having worked in various roles across the healthcare system before rising to leadership positions nationwide.

“We are grateful to Gregory Calliste for his many tremendous years of service to the health care system,” said Dr. Mitchell Katz, President and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals. “Sandra Sneed truly understands our mission to serve every New Yorker, no exceptions, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Woodhull.”

Outgoing CEO Gregory Calliste will retire after more than three decades of service to the health system, including over nine years at Woodhull. Calliste’s leadership brought significant infrastructure upgrades and improvements to patient care, navigating challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and a power failure in 2023.

“I’m passionate about patient care, and everyone in the hospital contributes to providing high quality patient care,” said Sandra Sneed. “I feel privileged and very fortunate to have been selected to lead Woodhull and serve the community of Brooklyn.”

Sneed’s most recent role was Chief Operating Officer at Memorial Regional Hospital in South Florida, where she led improvements in patient flow and increased surgeries by 7% over one year. Her leadership resulted in significant achievements, such as the hospital’s Maternal Levels of Care certification and a 46% reduction in Emergency Department wait times.

Sneed has also held senior roles at Texas Health Arlington Memorial, Howard University Hospital, and Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. She holds a Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy from Utica College and an MBA in Health Administration from Oakland University.

Woodhull Hospital serves North Brooklyn, with more than 360 inpatient beds and close to 300,000 ambulatory visits annually. The hospital recently earned a 2024 IPRO Quality Award and was recognized for its high-performing diabetes and COPD care by US News & World Report.
