Samsung has launched a vital security initiative urging Galaxy smartphone users across the UK to activate the latest anti-theft features on their devices. This appeal aligns with the UK Home Office’s new national campaign aimed at curbing the surge in smartphone thefts.
The South Korean technology leader has sent an important security alert to over 40 million Samsung account holders in the UK, utilizing various customer communication channels and the Samsung Members platform. The message emphasizes the importance of enabling enhanced security tools designed to protect users against theft.
Samsung’s UK office announced plans to further promote this awareness drive at the iconic Piccadilly Lights through prominent advertisements in central London’s tube and train stations. Outside London, the campaign will reach users via online video ads, connected TV, and video-on-demand platforms.
With the rollout of the One UI 7 update, Samsung has significantly upgraded its anti-theft protections and introduced new capabilities. The enhanced Anti-Robbery suite now features “Identity Check” and “Security Delay” functionalities. Previously exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series, these innovations are now extended to Galaxy S24, S23, S22 series, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 5. Additional Galaxy models are expected to receive these protections later this year.
Samsung’s current Theft Protection suite includes three critical components: Theft Detection Lock, which employs machine learning to sense sudden jerks or snatching motions and promptly locks the screen; Offline Device Lock, which secures the device if it stays disconnected from networks for a prolonged period; and Remote Lock, allowing users to lock their device remotely via phone number verification.
The new One UI 7 Anti-Robbery features elevate security further. “Identity Check” demands biometric verification for any sensitive security setting changes made in unfamiliar locations, ensuring unauthorized users cannot easily alter protections. Meanwhile, “Security Delay” imposes a one-hour hold before biometric data resets can occur, granting owners time to remotely lock stolen phones and prevent unauthorized access.
This comprehensive suite of security measures embodies Samsung’s commitment to safeguarding its users in an age where mobile theft is an ever-present threat, offering peace of mind through cutting-edge technology.
