Samsung to introduce digital car key support for Mahindra electric SUVs in India

Samsung will soon allow users in India to unlock their Mahindra electric SUVs using their Galaxy phones. The feature will be available through the Digital Key option in the Samsung Wallet. This was shared by the South Korean company during an event on Wednesday. Users will also be able to share the digital car key with others for a limited time. This can remove the need to carry a physical car key. The announcement follows almost a year after Mahindra introduced its BE 6 and XEV 9e electric vehicles in the country.

The Digital Car Key feature will be added soon into the Samsung Wallet app for users in India. It will first be available for select Mahindra Electric Origin SUVs. Samsung demonstrated the Digital Car Key on the Mahindra BE 6 at an event held in Bengaluru.

Users will be able to lock and unlock their Mahindra electric SUVs using a connected Galaxy device. They will also be able to start the vehicle with the same phone. The feature will further allow digital key sharing with friends and family for a short time. Access to the shared key can be controlled through the Samsung Wallet app.

If a Galaxy phone with the digital key is lost or stolen, Samsung will allow users to lock the phone, delete the data, and remove the digital car key remotely through the Samsung Find service. To ensure strong security, Samsung Wallet will support biometric or PIN based authentication. This will prevent unauthorised access to the vehicle.

The Samsung Wallet app was also recently updated to support live activity updates for flights, train journeys, and events. These updates can appear on the always on display and the lock screen. Users can also choose to pin this information next to the time at the top of the screen.
