South Korean electronics major Samsung Electronics is expanding its manufacturing portfolio in India, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday. Samsung already operates its second-largest mobile phone manufacturing unit in the country and is also India’s second-largest handset exporter after Apple.
“Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in Bharat, driven by talent and innovation. Its research unit in Bharat has more than 7,000 engineers,” Vaishnaw wrote in a post on X. The update came following his meeting with JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, and SP Chun, Corporate Vice President of Samsung Southwest Asia.
Earlier this year, TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, confirmed that the company is preparing to begin laptop manufacturing in India. Currently, Samsung produces every smartphone it sells in the country, including its latest premium devices, the Galaxy Z Fold7 priced between ₹1.74 lakh and ₹2.11 lakh, and the Galaxy Z Flip7 priced between ₹1.09 lakh and ₹1.22 lakh.
This expansion highlights Samsung’s commitment to strengthen India’s position as a hub for advanced technology manufacturing, supported by the country’s skilled workforce and growing innovation ecosystem.
