Samsung has reportedly previewed its first tri fold smartphone at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea. A report states that the device called the Samsung Galaxy TriFold was showcased at the event. It highlighted its special folding design and the company has confirmed that it plans to launch the device within this year.
Two Galaxy TriFold units were placed on display at the summit. One device was in a fully opened form and the other was completely folded. The phone has a three part layout with a large foldable screen that spans three connected panels with two hinges.
The report also mentions that this design is different from Huawei’s Mate XT that launched last year. Huawei’s phone folds outward in opposite directions. Samsung’s model folds inward from both sides. This looks similar to the Flex G concept that Samsung first revealed at a technology show in 2022. When the right side of the screen folds in and then the left side follows it becomes compact and looks like a normal smartphone. It was also seen to be as slim as the Galaxy S25 Ultra when folded.
Samsung has not confirmed the specifications. It has also not shared if the device shown is the final product. However the public appearance of the phone and its confirmed launch year suggests that the development stage is close to completion.
A recent report suggested that the Galaxy TriFold may feature a 10 inch OLED main screen divided into three folding parts and a 6.5 inch outer cover screen. It is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset and not the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
The report also shared that Samsung patents indicate a three battery setup with one battery in each section to manage power use better. The phone is also said to support wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
The camera system might include three rear cameras. This could include a 200 megapixel main camera along with an ultrawide camera and a telephoto lens offering up to 100 times digital zoom similar to the Galaxy S Ultra series.
