Samsung appears to be moving ahead with its next generation foldable smartphones, as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 have reportedly been listed on the IMEI database months before their expected launch. The listings suggest that development of the new Galaxy Z series devices is already in progress, with a market debut likely in the second half of the year.
According to a report by a technology platform, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 were spotted on the GSMA IMEI database with model numbers SM F976U and SM F776U. The letter U in the model numbers indicates that these variants are meant for the United States market, while Samsung typically uses the letter B for global models.
The database entries reportedly mention the codenames Q8 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and B8 for the Galaxy Z Flip 8. These follow Samsung’s established internal naming pattern for its foldable devices. The appearance of these models on the database suggests that the company may continue with its usual launch schedule for the Galaxy Z lineup.
In addition to the two standard models, a third foldable device with model number SM F971U and codename H8 was reportedly listed on the IMEI database last month. This has sparked speculation that Samsung could introduce a new category within its foldable portfolio. The device is rumoured to debut as the “Wide” Galaxy Z Fold 8 variant and could be positioned to compete with Apple’s upcoming foldable smartphone.
Samsung has not yet made any official announcement regarding its 2026 foldable smartphones. However, more information is expected to surface in the coming months.
The new Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are expected to launch in July. Reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could feature a 5000mAh battery, improved telephoto and ultrawide cameras, and a design that is around ten percent thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The device may also support faster charging, offer S Pen compatibility, and feature a near invisible display crease.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were launched in July last year with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset.
