Samsung adds private album feature to Gallery with One UI 8.5 update

Galaxy users now have a simpler way to hide personal photos and videos directly inside the Gallery app. With the rollout of One UI 8.5, Samsung has introduced a new feature called Private Album that removes the need to rely only on Secure Folder for protecting sensitive media.

Until now, users had to move private files into Secure Folder, which stored them in a separate space. While secure, this method made it inconvenient to view, edit, or share content, as files had to be moved in and out repeatedly. The new Private Album feature solves this problem by keeping hidden media inside the Gallery app itself.

Using the feature is simple. Users can open any image or video, tap the More option shown as three dots, and select Move to private album. Multiple items can also be moved at the same time. To access the private album, users need to tap the Menu option on the Gallery home screen. The album unlocks using the same fingerprint or screen lock used on the device, and Samsung has also disabled screenshots inside the private album for extra protection.

At present, the Private Album comes with basic controls. Users can share files, move them back to the regular gallery, or delete them. All media inside the private album is sorted only by date, with no extra sorting or organization options.

While the feature is still limited, the key benefit is that Galaxy users now have a built in way to keep personal content hidden without moving it into a separate secured space. This new option will be available once Galaxy phones and tablets receive the One UI 8.5 update.
