Salesforce to Acquire Waii, Marking a Major Move in AI-Powered CRM

In a strategic step to deepen its artificial intelligence capabilities, Salesforce has announced its acquisition of Waii, an AI-powered productivity startup. The deal is expected to significantly enhance Salesforce’s position in the growing enterprise AI market, particularly within its flagship Einstein 1 platform.

Waii (We Are All Intelligence), co-founded by former Google DeepMind researcher Ivan Lee, is known for its conversational AI technology tailored for productivity and team collaboration. The company has developed tools that enable intelligent meeting summarization, note-taking, and real-time action item generation, aiming to reduce the burden of manual documentation for professionals.

Although the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, sources suggest that the acquisition aligns with Salesforce’s broader strategy to infuse AI across all aspects of customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise operations.

Ivan Lee confirmed the acquisition in a post on LinkedIn, stating:
“Salesforce is the right home for Waii’s technology and team. Together, we aim to build products that redefine how humans and AI collaborate in the workplace.”

Waii had previously raised $6 million in seed funding from notable investors including NEA and Unusual Ventures. The startup’s technology is particularly known for its seamless integrations with workplace tools like Slack, Google Meet, and Zoom — ecosystems where Salesforce already has a strong presence, particularly following its acquisition of Slack in 2021.

Salesforce’s Chief Product Officer, David Schmaier, commented on the deal, emphasizing how Waii’s capabilities will further enhance the Salesforce ecosystem:
“This acquisition supports our vision to deliver an AI-first future of work Waii brings cutting-edge generative AI to improve productivity and streamline workflows across industries.”

This move adds to a series of AI-related investments and acquisitions by Salesforce in recent years, as it competes with tech giants like Microsoft and Google in the generative AI space. With increasing demand for AI solutions that directly integrate into enterprise workflows, this acquisition reinforces Salesforce’s commitment to staying at the forefront of intelligent automation and customer-centric innovation.
