RRP Electronics, which has announced plans to set up a Rs 12,000 crore semiconductor fabrication facility in Maharashtra, has received a letter of comfort from the state government for a 100-acre land parcel in Navi Mumbai for the project.
The letter of comfort was presented to the company by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at an event held on Thursday. The company, which is supported by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, confirmed the development in a statement.
“The company has secured 100 acres in Navi Mumbai for relocating a semiconductor fab from Sherman, Texas, from one of the world’s most established semiconductor companies,” the statement said.
Highlighting the importance of the project, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “This acquisition firmly positions Maharashtra at the heart of India’s Semiconductor Mission roadmap. Our government is fully committed to extending all necessary support, be it in infrastructure, policy facilitation, or skill development to ensure the success of this initiative.”
According to the company, the project is estimated to cost Rs 12,035 crore and is expected to become one of the region’s largest and most advanced fabs. The upcoming facility will have a production capacity of 125,000 wafers per month.
Construction is expected to begin within the next six months, with the first phase of the project planned for commissioning by the second quarter of 2026.
Sharing his views on the development, Rajendra Chodankar, Chairman of RRP Electronics, said, “This acquisition is a landmark step in our journey to make India self-reliant in semiconductors.”
With this project, Maharashtra is set to play a critical role in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem, aligning with the nation’s broader vision of building advanced manufacturing capacity and reducing dependence on imports in this strategic sector.
