One month after tightening chat safety rules Roblox says a large share of its users have already completed the new age verification process. The online gaming platform revealed that 45% of its 144 million daily active users have verified their age using facial age estimation or official ID checks.
The update was shared in the company’s latest shareholder letter where Roblox explained its decision to move beyond self declared ages. The company said the shift is aimed at creating safer and more age appropriate communication across the platform. It added that early adoption shows users are willing to comply with stronger safeguards that improve trust and experience.
Roblox also disclosed age group data from verified users for the first time. Of those who completed checks 35% are under 13 while 38% fall in the 13 to 17 range and 27% are 18 or older. The company noted that these ratios may change as more users complete verification. The move follows past criticism and legal action related to child safety which pushed the platform to strengthen controls.
To address mistakes during verification Roblox said it allows limited corrections. Adults who accidentally verified as a child can fix the error while users aged 18 or above get a one time reset option. Parents can also update their child age once through Parental Controls. Roblox stressed that safety remains central to long term engagement and trust. “We’re more committed than ever to connecting a billion people of all ages with optimism and civility,” the company said. Age checks are completed within the app using a short facial verification process powered by a third party provider which performs liveness detection and age estimation. Both companies say images and videos are deleted after verification.
