River Island Appoints Suzy Slavid as Trading Managing Director

River Island has appointed Suzy Slavid as its new Trading Managing Director, marking her return to the UK-based fashion retailer. The appointment follows Ben Lewis’s recent return as CEO of the company.

Slavid, who previously served as CEO of Wyse London, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She joined Wyse London in January 2023 but had an extensive career at River Island before. Between 1999 and 2012, Slavid held various positions, ultimately serving as merchandise manager for both kids wear and womenswear. She then moved to Boden in 2012, where she worked as Director of Merchandising and Marketing before being promoted to Chief Trading Officer in 2019.

Her return to River Island aligns with Ben Lewis’s reappointment as CEO. Lewis, a relative of the company’s founder Bernard Lewis, had previously served as CEO for nearly a decade until 2019. His return follows an announcement earlier this month, signalling a leadership shift aimed at revitalizing the company. Alongside these changes, Richard Bradbury, the Executive Chair, stepped down from his position for personal reasons.

Clive Lewis, son of Bernard Lewis, will now return to his previous role as Non-Executive Chair, effective immediately. River Island, which reported a loss in 2023, has brought in consultants from AlixPartners to help steer the company back towards profitability. The latest round of management changes is part of a broader strategy to ensure the brand’s continued revival and long-term growth.
