Dairy Farm Resident Loses ₹8.57 Lakh in Elaborate Online Investment Scam

In the quiet lanes of Sri Vijaya Puram, nestled in the Dairy Farm locality of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a painful tale of digital deceit has surfaced. A resident working with the Military Engineering Services (MES) has been stripped of ₹8.57 lakh in a sophisticated cyber fraud disguised as a promising investment opportunity.

The victim’s misfortune began on October 31, 2024, when a woman identifying herself as “Riya” reached out via WhatsApp. Posing as an advisor for a firm named “Helzberg Diamonds3600,” she spun a compelling narrative of wealth creation. Her pitch came with credibility: small gains were swiftly deposited after the first two investments of ₹10,500 each, luring the victim deeper into what appeared to be a golden opportunity.

Riya added the victim to a Telegram group, “Helzberg Financial Advisor,” filled with market chatter, apparent investment advice, and digital smoke and mirrors. Encouraged by the illusion of returns and the group’s professional demeanor, the victim went on to transfer a total of ₹8,57,638.

Trouble began when he tried to withdraw his investments returns—only to be met with a series of excuses and new demands for additional payments to “unlock” his funds. Suspicions turned into alarm. When confronted, “Riya” redirected him to a supposed senior official named “Amit Tiwari” on Telegram. But instead of helping, he too insisted on more deposits, continuing the cycle of manipulation.

It became painfully clear that the entire arrangement was an intricately woven scam — a digital mirage crafted to bleed victims dry while presenting a facade of credibility. From the false promises to the pressure for repeated payments, the victim realized he had been lured into a cyber trap laid by anonymous fraudsters masquerading as financial consultants.

After lodging an initial complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal on December 18, 2024, the case reached the Cyber Crime Police Station. An FIR was formally registered on April 3, 2025, under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

With digital scams evolving by the day, authorities urge people to remain vigilant and skeptical of online investment offers that seem too good to be true. One moment of misplaced trust can open doors to financial ruin.
