Reliance Industries Set for Next Major Leap with Focus on AI and Deep Tech, Says Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, has announced a significant strategic shift for the conglomerate, declaring that its next major phase of growth will be driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and deep technology. Ambani described this as the group’s “next significant leap,” following its transformative advancements in India’s telecom and energy sectors.

Ambani articulated a clear vision for Reliance to evolve into a “deep-tech and advanced manufacturing powerhouse.” This ambitious pivot underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to address pressing national challenges and drive economic prosperity.

In a notable revelation, Ambani stated that Reliance has independently built its entire 5G infrastructure. He noted that only a minor portion, approximately 20%, was sourced from global vendors Ericsson and Nokia, primarily for benchmarking purposes, highlighting the company’s in-house capabilities.

Regarding its AI strategy, Reliance plans a distinct approach. Ambani emphasized that the company will deliberately avoid high-risk, capital-intensive areas such as Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Instead, the focus will be squarely on developing downstream AI applications that are closely aligned with national needs. The core objective, Ambani stressed, is to solve complex societal problems and create wealth for the nation, adopting a purpose-driven rather than purely profit-driven approach. This societal impact-focused philosophy is also proving instrumental in attracting top global talent to the organization.

Ambani reiterated Reliance’s foundational philosophy of continuous reinvention and its unwavering commitment to a clear “North Star” goal centered on societal impact. While business strategies may evolve every few years, this core principle remains constant. He concluded by affirming that the company’s new business ventures are meticulously identified and pursued based on India’s most critical development needs, with a commitment to fulfilling them at scale.

“In 2027, Reliance will celebrate its golden jubilee. But I want Reliance to continue to serve India and humanity even after completing 100 years. And I am confident it will,” he added.
