Reliance Defence to Invest ₹10,000 Crore to Build India’s First Jet by 2028

Reliance Defence has revealed a plan to invest ₹10,000 crore in the aerospace sector over the next decade. The goal is to manufacture India’s first locally made commercial aircraft by 2028.

As part of this plan, Reliance Aerostructure Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Defence, has partnered with Dassault Aviation to assemble Falcon 2000 business jets in Nagpur. This facility, known as Dassault Reliance Aerospace, will be the first Falcon 2000 final assembly line outside France. The first Made in India Falcon 2000 jet is expected to be ready by 2028.

The Nagpur plant is located within the MIHAN Special Economic Zone and will serve as a global Centre of Excellence. It will also take on advanced manufacturing for Falcon 6X and Falcon 8X aircraft, including production of wings, fuselage sections, and front sections for new jets.

Reliance Defence will raise funds for this expansion through share sales, bonds, and by monetising infrastructure assets.

Rajesh Dhingra, Managing Director and CEO of Reliance Defence, said, “That’s the kind of roadmap we have ahead of us to be a global player. So five years from today, I think we would be in a position where we would be an integral part of the global aerospace domain.”

This development is supported by a strategic collaboration with Germany’s Diehl Defence. The project aligns with the national goal of building a self-reliant India and supports the Make in India campaign.

The new assembly line in Nagpur is also expected to generate hundreds of new engineering and technical jobs, further enhancing India’s capabilities in high-tech aerospace manufacturing.

This project represents a major step in India’s journey to become a leading hub for business jet production and to strengthen its aerospace and defence manufacturing industry.
