Reliance and Meta launch new joint venture to build enterprise AI solutions in India

Reliance Industries has announced the formation of a new joint venture with Meta to develop enterprise AI products for customers in India and select global markets. The deal is valued at Rs 855 crore.

The new company is called Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Intelligence Limited, which itself is a joint venture between Reliance Industries and Meta Platforms. Both companies have committed an initial investment of Rs 855 crore in the new entity.

According to a stock exchange filing dated October 25, 2025, Reliance Intelligence will invest Rs 2 crore and hold a 70 per cent stake in the new company. Facebook Overseas, owned by Meta, will hold the remaining 30 per cent. The filing also stated that “REIL will be engaged, inter alia, in developing, marketing and distributing enterprise AI services. No governmental or regulatory approvals were required for incorporation of REIL.”

The partnership between Reliance and Meta was first announced by Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani at the company’s forty eighth annual general meeting in August this year. The collaboration brings together India’s most valuable company and a leading global technology company at a time when India and the United States continue to face trade tariff tensions.

These geopolitical pressures have also pushed India to encourage the use of locally built digital products. Many senior government officials have already shifted to homegrown platforms created by Indian companies.

India is the world’s second largest internet market after China, with more than a billion users. This makes it a key growth region for global technology firms including Meta.

Mark Zuckerberg told shareholders at the Reliance annual meeting, “We believe this technology has the potential to bring a new era of personal empowerment, giving people greater agency to improve the world in all the directions they choose. And that is why I am excited about this partnership. It is a key step forward towards ensuring that everyone has access to AI, and eventually, superintelligence.”

Mukesh Ambani said, “Together, we want to pair the power of open source AI with Reliance’s deep domain knowledge across industries.” He added that the goal is to provide sovereign, enterprise ready AI for India that supports sectors including energy, retail, telecom, media, and manufacturing.

The joint venture will also focus on open source AI models so that Indian organisations can adopt advanced technology to improve innovation and productivity.

Reliance Industries is also working with Google on dedicated AI cloud infrastructure in India, which will begin with a large data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
