Reddit in Talks with Google and OpenAI for New AI Content Deal

Reddit is reportedly in early discussions with Google and OpenAI to establish a new content sharing agreement that would expand on their existing collaborations.

Currently, Reddit has a licensing arrangement with Google worth around 60 million dollars annually, giving the search giant access to its vast repository of discussions and user-generated data. The new talks aim to create a deeper collaboration, linking Reddit’s content more directly to Google’s artificial intelligence products.

The proposed arrangement would encourage increased user contributions by leveraging Google’s traffic to generate additional posts and discussions. These contributions could then be fed back into AI training systems, enhancing the quality and relevance of AI outputs.

Reddit is also exploring a new payment model that ties compensation to the value and frequency of its content usage. Unlike the current fixed fee structure, this model would allow Reddit to earn more as its discussions become increasingly important in AI-driven tools and search results.

Neither Reddit, Google, nor OpenAI have confirmed the discussions, but if successful, the deal could set a new precedent for companies that provide user-generated data.
