Reddit has expanded its AI-powered search feature to five additional languages, including French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. This update makes the functionality available in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy, allowing users to interact with the AI in their preferred language.
The feature, powered by a Google AI model, allows users to chat in a question-and-answer format. It is part of Reddit Answers, which complements the platform’s traditional search experience. Users who set one of the newly supported languages as their default can now enjoy AI-driven search without switching to English.
Reddit first introduced AI-powered search last year and has been steadily expanding its reach. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman revealed that Reddit search sees more than 70 million weekly users, while Reddit Answers is used by over 6 million people. He also highlighted plans to unify the search experience in future updates.
The addition of Q&A-style search reflects a growing trend in online search interfaces. Platforms such as ChatGPT, Google, and Brave have adopted chat-based search tools to enhance engagement and improve user retention. Emerging startups like Perplexity have also popularised conversational search, demonstrating the increasing demand for interactive and AI-assisted discovery tools.
By extending AI-powered search to more languages, Reddit aims to provide a more inclusive experience and support its global user base. This expansion allows users worldwide to benefit from faster, more intuitive information discovery while maintaining the familiar community-driven Reddit interface.
