Ransomware Attack Hits Sensata Technologies, Disrupts Global Operations

Sensata Technologies experienced a ransomware attack earlier this week that affected various operations, as stated in a regulatory filing. The company revealed that on Sunday, a ransomware incident encrypted specific devices within its network. Based in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Sensata focuses on sensors, controls, and other industrial technologies for the automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing industries.

“The incident has temporarily impacted Sensata’s operations, including shipping, receiving, manufacturing production, and various other support functions. While the company has implemented interim measures to allow for the restoration of certain functions, the timeline for a full restoration is not yet known,” Sensata said.

The company confirmed that certain files were removed from its network. “The company is working to identify the files and will notify affected individuals and regulators in accordance with applicable laws. Sensata said it does not currently expect the attack to have a material impact on the company’s financial results for the current quarter. Sensata noted, however, it has not yet determined the full scope and impact of the attack, and the materiality determination could change.

For the quarter ending March 31, the company anticipates that its earnings and revenue will fall within or slightly exceed the previously provided range from early February, which projected revenue between $870 million and $890 million for the quarter. Sensata has informed law enforcement about the attack and is collaborating with external cybersecurity experts to investigate the situation.

It remains uncertain which ransomware variant affected Sensata’s systems or whether a ransom was demanded. The company has not yet provided a comment on the matter. Sensata was established in 2006 when Bain Capital purchased the sensors and controls division of Texas Instruments for $3 billion and rebranded it as Sensata Technologies. The company reported $3.9 billion in revenue for 2024.
