Rajasthan Launches ₹300 Crore Scheme to Make Villages Poverty-Free

The Rajasthan government has launched the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Poverty-Free Village Scheme’ with an aim to eliminate poverty in rural areas and empower Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. In the first phase, ₹300 crore has been allocated to cover 5,000 villages and help families become self-reliant.

This initiative focuses on improving rural livelihoods by connecting families with skill development, employment opportunities, and financial support. So far, 30,631 BPL families have been identified in 5,002 villages. A physical survey has been completed, and data has been matched with the 2002 BPL Census. Each village is now preparing a ‘Poverty-Free Village Action Plan’ for targeted support.

Families that have independently moved above the poverty line will be rewarded with ₹21,000 as recognition. During the ongoing Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Sambal Fortnight, 22,400 such families will receive this incentive through Direct Benefit Transfer. Verification of bank accounts has been completed for 17,891 families. These families will also be issued a ‘Self-Reliant Family Card’ to mark their achievement.

The scheme provides financial support of up to ₹1 lakh for self-employment and livelihood projects. Women from self-help groups are eligible for working capital support of ₹15,000 per family. So far, applications have been received from 61,442 families who are being connected with relevant government schemes.

To promote better implementation, quarterly performance rankings will be held for districts. The top-performing district will receive ₹50 lakh, the second ₹35 lakh, and the third ₹25 lakh as rewards.

In the second phase, another 5,002 villages have been selected, and surveys have already covered 22,872 families. The scheme is being aligned with other state programs to ensure overall rural development.

This scheme aims to promote self-reliance, economic stability, and inclusive growth for Rajasthan’s rural population.
