OpenAI has named Raghav Gupta as its Head of Education for India and Asia Pacific. The announcement was made on Monday, marking a significant step as the company expands its presence in the region.
Gupta is among the first members of OpenAI’s corporate office in New Delhi. Sharing the news on LinkedIn, he wrote, “Some milestones feel bigger than others. Today I’m starting a new chapter as Head of Education for India and Asia Pacific at OpenAI.”
He also revealed details of OpenAI’s initiatives in India. “We took an important first step today at our inaugural India Education Summit by launching the OpenAI Learning Accelerator,” Gupta shared. The programme is designed to support innovation in research on AI and education, while also providing ChatGPT licenses to institutions through partnerships with IIT Madras, AICTE and ARISE.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Gupta added, “This is just the beginning. Excited to start this new journey and connect with educators, students, and institutions interested in exploring how AI can positively shape the future of education.”
Before joining OpenAI, Gupta spent eight years at Coursera, where he first took on the role of Director for India and Asia Pacific in 2017 and was later promoted to Managing Director in 2019. His experience in scaling education technology platforms across the region is expected to play a key role in OpenAI’s efforts to advance AI adoption in education.
