A major investigation in Raebareli has exposed a large-scale racket that created fake families to help suspected Bangladeshi, Rohingya and Pakistani infiltrators secure Indian citizenship. Verification teams examining records in the Salon block—specifically the villages of Nuruddinpur, Lahurepur and Garhi Islamnagar—found that more than 400 families listed in Raebareli’s official records did not exist when officers visited the locations. Acting on central agency alerts, authorities have already cancelled 1,046 forged birth certificates linked to this Raebareli scam.
The fraud surfaced when Raebareli officials detected abnormal patterns in birth registrations across the district. Many entries were linked to households that existed only on paper, featuring inflated family sizes, fake parent names and false addresses. These forged documents were allegedly designed to build a fraudulent base for citizenship claims by foreign nationals operating in or around Raebareli.
During field verification, authorities uncovered shocking examples of falsified identities. Records showed 15 birth certificates issued under the name of Arif Malik’s children, even though no such family existed in Raebareli. Another man, Ajmat Ali, was falsely shown to have 13 children, while Imran Khan appeared to be the father of 9—yet none of these individuals were found in the villages. Similar fabricated entries were linked to names like Aesh Mohammad, Abdul Aziz, Abdul Ali and Akbar Ali, all tied to non-existent Raebareli addresses. Investigators also confirmed that four Bangladeshi nationals and two Rohingya had nearly succeeded in obtaining citizenship through the forged Raebareli documents.
Officials believe this is part of a well-coordinated documentation racket operating within Raebareli, creating fake identities and helping infiltrators exploit the birth registration system. Not a single fake family listed in the government records was found in any of the three villages. District Panchayati Raj Officer Saumyashil Singh said over 250 forged certificates were cancelled in one day, though technical server issues are slowing the broader cleanup. With 1,046 certificates already revoked, Raebareli authorities expect the number to rise as the investigation expands to neighbouring blocks.
